Here are a couple of stories about coyote hunting, they are all true even though some are hard to believe. It is amazing what can happen when you start calling in the hunters. Coyotes, bobcats and foxes can all leave you scratching your head sometimes.

Coyotes can come from anywhere

It was a cool Arizona morning temperatures around 33 degrees. We walked from the truck to a clearing about 150 yards away. I had Bob set up under a bush on the edge of the clearing looking south. I set up about 25 yards to his left in front of a tree in order to break up my outline. I started off the stand using a Tally Ho with a soft but raspy rabbit squeal. After about a minute of calling I stopped and waited, I looked over at Bob and he was pretty excited. You know that look when you feel you are going to have a good day? More

When you call, you never know what will come in

Me and a fellow Southern Arizona Wildlife Caller member Jon, set up on the side of a little rock pile in the middle of the

desert. I put the Fox Pro FX-3 about 20 yards out in the middle of us both. I turned on the call and within about a minute I saw a flash about 200 yards straight in from of me heading our direction. It was running in fast, faster then anything I

have ever seen coming to the call. More

My son and I on a hunt

I took my son out on his first trip coyote hunting. He went out and bought a new 30.06 at Wal-Mart during a Christmas sale and I told him to sight it in and I would take him out Coyote hunting. That day was one of those days I will think back on and laugh. We did about 6 stands that day and called in 3 Coyotes. The first Coyote we called in got hung up about 150 yards out behind some brush which made the shot impossible so I won’t talk about that one. More

Speaking of changing your drawers

I was on a coyote hunt near Flagstaff, AZ. If you have never hunted near Flagstaff there are Pine and Cedar trees. If you get in the Pine trees on a hill you can sit down and see forever because the branches on Pine trees start growing high on the tree.

On to the hunt, I found an area I just knew there would be coyotes. I sat in front of a Cedar tree looking downhill under the Pine trees. I started the stand with the Tally Ho making it as raspy as I could. I called for about a minute until my lungs and lip started hurting. I waited about a minute or two and started calling again.  More

Why I predator hunt

There are many reason people hunt predators. I will not go out on a limb and try to speak for them but I will let you know why I hunt predators. If after you read this you still do not understand why I hunt predators and the good of it then you my friend are truly a “TREE HUGGER” and closed minded and there is no way to change your mind. We in the hunting world call you “Anti-Hunters”.  More

Too close for comfort

On this stand, Brandon and I set up in a wide open field with tall grass and a deep wash to our right. The only area that can’t be seen here is the bottom of the wash.

I placed the call about 20 yards in from of me. Brandon set up in front of a tree to my right closest to the wash. I turned on the call and within a minute the coyote came running up the side of the wash to the only tree between him and the call. I could barely get the camera turned on it happened so fast. More
