Why do we (I) hunt predators
There are many reason people hunt predators. I will not go out on a limb and try to speak for them but I will let you know why I hunt predators. If after you read this you still do not understand why I hunt predators and the good of it then you my friend are truly a “TREE HUGGER” and closed minded and there is no way to change your mind. We in the hunting world call you “Anti-Hunters”.

Predators are animals that are opportunistic; they will kill and eat almost any game including deer, antelope, rabbits, squirrels, and so on. They are also scavengers and eat animals that have died or have been wounded by cars and other means. These predators come in the names, Coyote, Fox, Bobcat, Mountain Lions, Badgers and skunks to name a few.
On to the point; why do I hunt predators? The reason is actually simple but takes some explaining in order for those who do not understand to grasp the reasoning behind it.
I hunt predators because I truly believe that the declines in big game herds (Elk, Deer, and Antelope) are directly linked to predation. Some will argue it is the drought or lack of food supply. I agree these items have a big effect on overall herd sizes but it is also proven that if fawns/calves can survive the first 4 months of predation they have an 80% chance of survival.

There are numerous cases some which I have seen with my own eyes of coyotes pulling calves/fawns from the birthing mothers. I have also seen coyotes take house pets from the chain they were on in the back yard, rip the heads off of chickens in pins when they stick their heads out to peck the ground. They have also taken domestic calves from their birthing mothers. Some of these you can see directly effect farmers/ranchers which directly affect their means of taking care of their families.
The reasons the above happen are because the populations of these predators in those particular areas are outgrowing their food supply.
